Large benthic foraminifera as recorders of fine-scale coastal elemental variability
This study explores the use of shallow-water large benthic foraminifera as natural recorders of fine-scale coastal elemental variability, including signals linked to human activity. Focusing on the Gulf of Aqaba–Eilat, the research compares living specimens collected from sites with different environmental pressures along the Israeli coastline. The results show that miliolid taxa display clearer spatial and temporal elemental patterns than rotaliids, highlighting their potential as sensitive bio-recorders for coastal environmental monitoring.
